Some argue that the Bible is contradictory concerning whether Jesus can be God if “God is not a man.” The argument is that Numbers 23:19 says that God is not a man, but Jesus is a man. However, there is a very easy explanation that solves this alleged contradiction in the Bible.

Numbers 23:19 – If God Is Not a Man, What About Jesus?

God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

The Answer – If God Is Not a Man, What About Jesus?

God Is Not a Man in Certain Ways

There are at least two answers to the alleged contradiction:

  1. The point of Numbers 23:19 is that God is not ”’like”’ a man in the sense that he does not lie and does not change his mind. It is completely unrelated to the incarnation and Jesus’ human nature.
  2. Numbers 23:19 is speaking about God the Father, not about Jesus. It is indeed true that God the father is not a man. As John 4:24 tells us, “God is spirit.”
